Nyckole Lazaro

Nyckole Lazaro is designated Lorena and Jeremy Beck Living Christianity Takeoff Space Scholar in honor of our generous donors. Nyckole moved to the United States to escape the hardships and danger her family endured while living in Colombia where a gang targeted her family’s tomato farm. 

Nyckole stretches herself with AP Literature, Psychology and Calculus BC as well as outstanding grades overall. She plans to study English and Education as the first in her family to attend college.

Nyckole’s determination to live a life of service to others is underlined by her role in Best Buddies at Lowell High School, where she extends friendship and a sense of belonging to students facing disabilities. She also volunteers to help children with the Lowell Housing Authority.

In addition, Nyckole volunteers at her local church where she is youth president and educates children. Through her many experiences in the classroom, she was able to discover her desire to become a teacher in the future. Nyckole is additionally president of her school Bible Club. When she is not busy with her church or clubs, Nyckole is the Wing Commander of the AFJROTC at Lowell High School and part of the Honor Guard. Mentor: Isabel Lopez.
