Veronica Kang is our Lori Tsuruda Takeoff Space Scholar designated in honor of our generous donor who is founder of the nonprofit People Making a Difference.
Veronica is the daughter of Cambodian immigrants Cambodia and will be the first person in her family to go to college. Her parents struggled financially and with adjusting to the language and environment found in the United States. As their first child, Veronica has had to figure a lot on her own, especially when it comes to school. To help her parents, she has an after-school job at a fast food restaurant which consumes most of her time, including nighttime working up to 10 pm. After work, she comes home and gets her homework done late before rising for school early, determined to forget tiredness and succeed.
At Lowell High School, she is part of extracurriculars such as Science League and the Studio Art Club of which Veronica was one of the two founding presidents, and always tries to take the most challenging courses her school has to offer, taking APs from European history to Physics and Calculus BC. She hopes to become a doctor and do what she loves most, helping those in need. Mentor: Isabel Lopez.
